Description

2015 two CD collection from the Liverpudlian quartet. This double disc set focuses on their hits and album tracks released when Seagullmania was at it's zenith. A Flock of Seagulls combined a striking image with memorable, synthesizer-based music. In Britain their biggest and best remember hit 'Wishing (I Had A Photograph Of You)' hit the Top Ten in late 1982, some months after their single 'I Ran (So Far Away)' was a similar hit in the USA. Both hits feature on this comprehensive 36 track collection along with all the singles, classic album tracks, b-sides and extended versions.

I have been an on/off again fan of this band since the song "I Ran" was playing on MTV. Sad to say I buy the products only to get rid of them seven years later. Well, I started missing AFOS again and started looking for the most economical way to get the most material. I found this CD and I like it very much. Here are some things I really like about it. First, each disk has 78-79 minutes of music on it. That is a lot of bang for the buck. The song selection covers the majority of songs from their first three albums and I like it that the song running order is shuffled. There is a lot of good music here! My only complaints about this collection is that the song "Over The Border" was omitted from their "Listen" album. If I had my way, I would have cut the disc 1 version of "I Ran" and just used the extended version with screaming keyboard intro and that great guitar solo at the end. I also would have chopped the extended version of "The More You Live, The More You Love." Overall, the effort was made to capture as much AFOS material as possible and I thought the songs selected were actually good. "The Story of a Young Heart" album had some really good material on it but there were some duds. I thought this disc took the very best off that album. I'm also glad that some rarities showed up in the form of the songs "Tanglimara" and "Committed." However, my memory is thinking that "Committed" was a much longer song than what is presented here. I like it that "Wishing" starts disk 1 and concludes with the extended version on disk 2. AFOS was a unique band with a unique sound and I am glad to have rediscovered them again.
