It is study and holds books in place.Finding a good book or file holder can be difficult, but this one is just great! I'm so glad I decided to give it a look!Made in China, this all metal book end is just perfect! The edges are finished nicely and not sharp. It has 3 different sections that can expand and contract as needed for the size of the book or folders in that section. It is a vintage green color that was popular in the mid-century in the industrial side of life and it has the look of the vintage steel tanker desks of that period. I'm in love!!It has a great 360* look. From the front it has the 3 sections to hold your files and books securely and it doesn't tip over or slide sideways. My desk is in the middle of the office and not against a wall, so it looks great when people approach the desk as well with the metal lattice mechanism that holds it together and allows it to expand and contract. It's so attractive both ways!There is a pen holder that can be put into the holes provided on either side of the unit. I put some paperclips on the pen holder just in case I needed one quickly.I've also shown it on my mantel in the she-shed and it looks great on there. Put some books in it and it is a really neat and unique accent. I like staring at it as a piece of art without any books in it at all.One thing that would make this even better is if there were some felt or rubber on the bottom or at least little silicone feet to ensure that it wouldn't scratch any surfaces. It hasn't scratched any of the surfaces that I have but just insurance would be good. I will probably add some little pads to the bottom just to be sure.This is such a great vintage industrial farmhouse or even steampunk look. I just LOVE it! It would be a great and welcomed gift for those that love the industrial, farmhouse or steampunk. It would even blend with a modern look. So versatile!I hope this was helpful.Highly Recommend.I bought this bookend for my kids' bookshelf. Their boos are not so big and heavy, mostly small kids' book. With this holder, my 5.5 years old son could divide his books into four categories because the holder has been divided into 4 spaces by metal dividers. And the adjustable design makes it extend long if you needed. It's not a super strong and sturdy bookend that could hold heavy books, but it works well with medium-size books. I like it.I wish there were more bookends like this available out there. It looks great from the front and the back, holds several books together without fear of them sliding and tipping over. Even with heavy bookends, sometimes I have trouble keeping things together on my shelf.The little cup attachment is a nice touch, and you can clip it onto either side of the bookend. I got the "green" color, which I absolutely love. It's a muted dusty green, almost like a faded teal. The whole thing has a very midcentury vintage feel to it. Good build quality, too.Es muy bonito.
