Description

Product description A collection of episodes of the television program where a science teacher named Beakman answers children's questions about science.Genre: TelevisionRating: NRRelease Date: 7-SEP-2004Media Type: DVD Amazon.com Science investigator Beakman's hair may look like it took the business end of a powerful electric shock, but as host of the silly but enlightening The Best of Beakman's World, he proves far too savvy about natural forces to make such a blunder. With the help of penguin smart alecks Don and Herb (voiced by Alan Barzman and Bert Berdis), and ratty-looking rodent Lester (Mark Ritts), Beakman (Paul Zaloom) explains, in brief, sketch-like blackouts, how a lot of Stuff works. Sure, one can contain water in an upside-down glass with a mere playing card; it's called air pressure. Yes, a tennis ball that bounces off a bouncing basketball will shoot 15 feet in the air. No, one can't push a stick through a small pile of table salt sitting in a tissue-covered paper tube. Indeed, the mysteries of a camera obscura can be explored with a cardboard box. Big ideas, simple (and fun) execution. --Tom Keogh

I truly believe this is one of the best shows ever produced for kids. Has there ever been a program that made science and education more fun than this? I can't imagine there has been. Beakman is a not-so-mad scientist, who teaches scientific principles and facts, with fun, wit, and charm. His "lab rat" Lester and assistant Josie (Alana Ubach, who since has made a career for herself in numerous roles) add to the fun. I enjoyed this as a teen, and now my kids have an absolute blast learning about science with Beakman. These episodes really hold up, and are just as good as they were 20 years ago - they don't look that dated at all. Paul Zaloom is fantastic as Beakman, and again, why this show never found a huge audience is a mystery to me. Recommend - you won't regret this purchase.
