The author J.R. Suber has set up an exciting nonfiction book about an outstanding rugby player in England in the early 1940s & beyond. Even if you know nothing about rugby, you'll enjoy how Eric Bole challenges his teammates to work together and BE THE BEST The first half of the book covers his early days, including at Cambridge University with lots of descriptions of exciting games within the U.K. In December 1945 as captain of the Cambridge team, he introduced King George VI to his teammates. After his university days he became a coach of younger boys until he emigrated to the United States. Full disclosure: This reviewer met Eric Bole in the mid-1960's when he was soccer coach and headmaster of a private school in St Louis, MO. The young men he worked with often spoke of his character education, as well as his soccer expertise. Although he coached high school age boys, he also helped form a rugby team named Thunder Chickens at a nearby college. An inspiring read for anyone working with young people.
